Adaptation Responses to Early Drought Stress of West Africa Sorghum Varieties

چکیده
Sorghum is the fifth most important cereal crop world-wide and feeds millions of people in Sahel. However, it often faces early-stage water deficit due to false onsets rainy seasons resulting production decrease. Therefore, developing early drought tolerant material becomes a necessity but requires good knowledge adaptation mechanisms, which remains be elucidated. The present study aimed at assessing effects stress on ten elite sorghum varieties tested over two years (2018–2019) National Agronomic Research Centre (CNRA) Bambey (Senegal, West Africa). Two different regimes (well-watered stress) were applied during dry season. Water was by withholding irrigation 25 days after sowing for one month, followed optimal until maturity. Soil moisture measurements performed allowed follow level (down fraction transpirable soil (FTSW) 0.30 end stress). An agro-physio-morphological monitoring carried out experiment. Results showed highly significant plants growth decreasing leaf appearance, biomass, height also yield set up. combined analysis variance revealed differences (p ≤ 0.01) between environments characters. Under deficit, variability less strong appearance plant stress. responses related capacity grow up fast complete their cycle rather, increase dead leaves weight, reduce photosynthesis rate, stomatal conductance, transpiration roots length density. V1, V2, V8 V9 promising behavior under could suitable further application Africa breeding farming.

Biochemical Analyses of Sorghum Varieties Reveal Differential Responses to Drought.
We have examined the biochemical responses of two sorghum cultivars of differing drought tolerance, Samsorg 17 (more drought tolerant) and Samsorg 40 (less drought tolerant), to sustained drought. Plants were exposed to different degrees of drought and then maintained at that level for five days. Responses were examined in terms of metabolic changes and the expression of drought induced protein...

This research was carried out in a factorial split plot experiment based on a randomized complete block design with four replications in Semnan Agriculture Research Center, Bastam, central Iran, in 2019. Experimental treatments included irrigation as the main factor at three levels of 100, 75 and 50% of water requirement and sub-factors including cultivar at three levels (Titicaca, Q26 and Q29)...

This study measured the impacts of drought tolerant maize varieties (DTMVs) on productivity, welfare, and risk exposure using household and plot-level data from rural Nigeria. The study employed an endogenous switching regression approach to control for both observed and unobserved sources of heterogeneity between adopters and non-adopters. Our results showed that adoption of DTMVs increased ma...

Plants in their natural habitats adapt to drought stress in the environment through a variety of mechanisms, ranging from transient responses to low soil moisture to major survival mechanisms of escape by early flowering in absence of seasonal rainfall. متن کاملPhysio-biochemical and Enzymatic Responses of Sunflower to Drought Stress
Drought stress is a serious adverse factor that limits sunflower growth and productivity. The stress induces a range of physiological and biochemical responses in sunflower. So, evaluation of defense systems is important for producing resistant cultivars. In this study, physio-biochemical changes and antioxidant enzymes activitiesof six sunflower lines were evaluated under normal and irrigation...
